The South Australia Wine Industry Association awarded Pernod Ricard Winemakers with the Environmental Excellence Award in 2019. The fourth win in this category in the past five years, the business was acknowledged for its commitment to sustainability in the wine industry and particularly for its commitment to 100% renewable electricity.
The SAWIA Environmental Excellence Awards Program aims to acknowledge wine businesses that go above and beyond the basics and implement improvements in the areas of energy and carbon, land and biodiversity, water and waste.
This year, the theme ‘leadership’ focused on the adoption of leading-edge practices that go beyond compliance, with demonstrable improvements to the environment and the business.
Sustainable Development Manager, Stephen Cook, said: “The SAWIA was particularly impressed with our commitment to deliver 100% renewable electricity in 2019 through the direct installation of solar panels and renewable power purchase agreements.
“In addition, we were commended on our Responsinb’ALL Day activity and focus on ‘Circular Making’, which supports the Group’s 2030 Sustainability & Responsibility Roadmap.”
This year, Pernod Ricard Winemakers were joint winners with Treasury Wine Estates, who were acknowledged for their broader approach to climate change.
“This is the fourth time in the past five years that Pernod Ricard Winemakers have won this award. We are proud of the consistent recognition from SWAIA, it proves that our business is demonstrating its ability to be an industry leader in Sustainability & Responsibility,” Stephen said.
Earlier this year, Pernod Ricard launched the 2030 Sustainability and Responsibility Roadmap outlining eight ambitious targets supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is designed to build on past successes and ambitiously push our business further.
