100% RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY
Pernod Ricard Winemakers Pacific Achieves 100% Renewable Electricity
Today, Pernod Ricard Winemakers celebrates achieving 100% renewable electricity for all sites across the Pacific as the business joins the Certified Renewable Energy scheme with Meridian Energy, which matches the New Zealand site’s annual electricity usage with 100% certified renewable energy.
This accomplishment follows from the Australian sites transitioning to 100% renewable electricity in 2019 with AGL.
Pernod Ricard Winemakers New Zealand is one of the first companies to join Meridian’s Certified Renewable Energy scheme, which allows our business to purchase certification to match our electricity consumption with Meridian’s 100% renewable energy generation.
The New Zealand Energy Certificate System (NZECS) issues Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) that are allocated to businesses like Pernod Ricard Winemakers, as a way to verify renewable energy generation equivalent to their consumption. Renewable Energy that is certified enables businesses to report their Scope 2 electricity emissions as zero*.
Brett McKinnon, Pernod Ricard Winemakers’ Chief Operations Officer, says “Pernod Ricard Winemakers is excited to be partnering with Meridian to produce our wine with the help of 100% certified renewable electricity. We are especially proud to be able to announce this on World Environment Day – a day dedicated to preserving nature.”
“Being sustainable and responsible is an integral part of our New Zealand wine business and has been for many years, which makes this a natural next step for us. In alignment with our global ambition to create Good Times from a Good Place, our aim is to minimise our impact on the communities where we operate and preserve the environment for future generations to come.”
Sustainability & Responsibility is an important part of Pernod Ricard’s global strategy, with the recent launch of our 2030 Sustainability & Responsibility Roadmap, Good Times from a Good Place, which sets out eight ambitious goals aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
